ANTIGUA AND THE ANTIGUANS
A reprint in two volumes
- First published in 1844, this book gives a true feeling of what life was like in Antigua some 150 years ago. It is a lively combination of description, history, anecdote, personal comment and vivid observation.
- The author - a Mrs. Lanaghan - came to live on Antigua during the years before and after the emancipation of slavery on the island, and recorded life as she saw it. Though little is known about her, her character comes through as we read the book, so that we feel we know her quite well by the end of it. (Description based on Desmond Nicholson's Introduction to Antigua and the Antiguans)
- The volumes were reprinted in 1991 by The Map Shop, Antigua and Macmillan Caribbean. Volume 1: xxii, 345 pages; Volume 2: x, 355 pages.
ANTIGUA AND THE ANTIGUANS is available from Carib Info' at a cost of US$200, which includes air mail shipping.
